Most agents can’t say they joined this industry after ten years of professional hockey, but I’m not like most insurance professionals – or hockey players.
While many of my former team members were golfing during summer downtime, I was busy interning to develop a plan for what I’d do after retirement. I wanted an industry that rewarded the work and effort of an employee, allowed me to use my intellect as a resource and provided a team atmosphere. Structuring customized programs to help companies with their risk management needs simply appealed to me. It is satisfying to solve problems in a creative way.
With a team of talented professionals backing me, I was able to assist a property manager with risk management problems stemming from the company’s rapid growth. Because a number of properties were placed with a handful of different insurance companies and agents, the program was unorganized and inefficient. By consolidating their properties under one policy, I was able to lower their premiums by nearly 20 percent, while making their program management simpler and more effective.
It’s about making things comprehensive and efficient. If some money is saved while providing better service and better solutions to their exposures, my clients can feel good about their insurance programs and the value of having me on their team.
